1. Female 2. 22 3. Overall? Probably around a 3. Dubbed anime is still inferior to watching something subbed but at the same time, it's come a LONG way from what it used to be. As long as the show isn't mainstreamed on Fox, the dubbing is usually tolerable. 4. Number one would be voice actors. The damn voice better fit the characters! I really don't care so much about people butchering the script to fit the mouth movements of English as long as they get the same general idea across (no matter how retarded their English sounds *laughs*). It always amuses me to watch a dub with the subs on and see the differences in speech. In a good dub, it's not a big a deal. As for the company, I wasn't wild about Funimation way back in the day (it's not their fault. When they were competing with Pioneer/Geneon and ADV for dub contracts, they always seemed to come up with crap.), but since Geneon went under and ADV has all but disappeared, I have to like them because they're pretty much the only dubber left. Plus, Carrie Savage works for them now. Yay Carrie Savage! ;D 5. There were always pretty much only 3 of them. (AnimeWorks doesn't count because they dubbed like 3 series. ) I can only give you one example because I was only ever partial to one...and that was Pioneer/Geneon. They always seemed to do a pretty good job (save the earlier stuff in the 90's that NO ONE did a good job on) matching the voices to the characters when anime became a serious money making endeavor. ADV did alright, but they used frickin' Cynthia Martinez WAAAAAY too much and I got sick of hearing her voice because it all began to sound the same (save when she played Hermes in Kino's Journey. That performance was unique enough for me to tolerate..despite the fact that her voice still sounds NOTHING like Japanese Hermes ). 6. Again, this has been covered in the last two questions so I'll refrain from repeating myself too much. 7. Woo! Obscure anime time! There's a reason Haibane Renmei and Kino's Journey are my favorite and it's not just the plots (which are magnificent, BTW)...every character is dubbed well in both of these series. Also, as strange as the show is at time, Azumanga Daioh also did a very good job in casting characters and they all did a good job with their acting and really getting into their character's personality (which is hard to do in the case of Tomo and Ms. Yukari ;D). I thought Last Exile was also a pretty good dub, as was Gunslinger Girl. 8. Sailor Moon. Which, is why the SMA crew stepped in to fix it. ;D Seriously though, even when I was a kid and was OBSESSED with this show, I still thought the dub was just God-awful (and this was before I even cared about the difference between subtitles and dubs). The whole Gundam series was also another terrible dub (hey! And a terrible show!), as was Neon Genesis Evangelion. However, the worst dub of all time has to be Ronin Warriors. I don't know what the hell was up with that show, but it just always sounded mutilated. *laughs* As I said earlier, most of the stuff in the early 90's, before anime became profitable, was dubbed poorly because these companies didn't have to worry about it as much (back in the day, there was little to no competition...then there was that period of like 2002-2006 where all the companies were at one another's throats to compete for the best contracts and turn out the best dubs). 9. As long as a dub is good, the only thing you really lose is the cultural aspects of an anime. The best example I can give of this is Azumanga Daioh. If you flip through those little books that come with each DVD, there are TONS of cultural references that the dub just flat out ignores or alters so that American audiences can understand it. That's a shame, but as long as they at least explain what I'm missing somewhere (like in those little books) I don't really mind because with a DVD, I can always just watch the subbed version when I'm finished. ;D 10. Nope. I've nattered on enough for now.

1.Male 2.25 3.3 4.When it comes to US dubbing, its either HIT or MISS. I understand that these VAs and Seiyuus have to travel around the US all the time attend Cons under contractual obligations and its really absurd to gripe about the how the dialog doesn't makes sense in a cartoon. Anime is not Hamlet obviously [although Batman technically is], and if Dubs suck so bad why do people still watch the shows over and over, to obsess about every nuance and mistake. When some guy complains that the translation is innacurate and it makes the Dub fail, its ridiculous. Cause -'A': English is the primary language in this country and the majority never took Japanese much less understand the different accents, variations, pronounciations, or the proper use of frases to the way we commonly speak over in the US...AND the same majority of fans havent taken Acting or Voice Acting lessons, or are Super English Majors with Docterate Degrees. Know any English Doctors that are Hardcore anime fans? Didnt think so. -'B': Anime early on was intended for a market of barely intellegent children and at the time the only market for older geeks was StarWars and StarTrek. -'C':Japan has inconsistencies on their side too. I read in some articles that they [japans animation dept:AKA Korean Animators] dont even synch fully with the dialog. They Animate, do the Voices, then edit the whole thing to synch, and even the dialog doenst synch with the mouth movements half the time. Considering they release on a constant bases compared to say Disney, Or Warner Bros. I grew up on Ninja Turtles and the 1st US PowerRangers, Im not gonna go out of my way to look up inconsistencies and obsess about what was said wrong. Takes some free time and go watch the old Rocky movies and see if that dialogue doesnt make you wanna make an abrigded series. 5.Funimation-[recently not the early stuff]Some characters seem to fit with their voices and i have enough of a imagination to accept as an Okay job MangaVideo[or what ever company that is in charge of the voice work]-They worked pretty good for the Dubbing of the SF2 Movie and the SFv series Okratron5000[primarily DBz]Mostly for the Experience that they have and all the work they have done over the years. 6.Whover dubbed SF on the USA network. It was just too GiJoe and some of the voices didnt fit the character's persona FOURkids, but ill give them credit on the recent Ninja Turtles, everything else is just 4kids only Whoever Dubbed the Newer Sonic, Maybe im a closet Urkel fan and i just dont know it yet, but Jaleel White was in my opinion perfect for the role. 7.Naruto-cause alot of actors and some of the actors have a good range with their voice works, even though the script is butchered. DBZ-They had alot of opportunity to improve over the last 20 or so years and it shows by the FACT that the SAME VOICE CAST is STILL employed after all these years. BLEACH-same as Naruto...and same cast apparently. Kingdom Hearts 1+2:Excellent job, Great use of original voice cast [except when they mixed up David Boreanus(ANGEL=Squall, it fits perfectly!), Ian Ziering and Jonathon Taylor Thomas were missing from the Lion King parts], and the Final Fantasy cast fit excellently. [Mina Suvari and Rachel Leigh Cook, OH MY EFFING GEE! ] Batman:Gotham Knight-I liked the Eng dub better, mostly cause it sounded like Batman was Batman. I wont give the Japanese my gripes cause Batmans our guy and its idiocy to expect them to be better than the established and successful formula that Kevin Conroy [BatmanTAS,JL, and JLU] has given the BatFans for so long. 8.Evangelion: I thought the dialogue was crap, i can assume the VAs thought it was crap and they needed the money so they gave it a shot. Darkstalkers and Streetfighter US versions:They made the characters too one sided and they all were driven by some objective outside of what was established in the Series. Castlevania;SOTN reDub for PSP:I EFFING HATE SASU-LACARD!!! The original was kinda cheesy and melodramatic, but it fit so perfectly, and after hearing Sasulacard's post pubecent voice, I wanted to use 'SOUL STEAL' on the jerk responsible. Other than that gripe he did do a good job as Superman and SupermanX in Legion Of Super Heroes, better than the crap Baldwin tried to pull in Doomsday. Castlevania Judgement:Naruto says: "SASU-LACARD, NOZZZE!!!" Sonic:Urkel did a better job. Sailormoon:Id put down Ronin Warriors, but admittedly ive only seen the 1st season of SM and a few episodes of RW 9. I really wouldnt know how to answer that. Ive seen a bunch of anime, but as a consumer I'm satisfied by whatever is not utter crap. Any anime could sound like it had an epic writing staff and top notch Voice actors, but if the animation is crap [some scenes have too much and some were just repeated animations of a 'THE STAREDOWN and SIZE UP' situation], and the fighting is the inbred love child of 'Epic Fail' and 'Shwarbage' [Anyone else seen the 'X' anime?] Then I wont give them the courtesy of telling the creators it sucked . 10. Alot is lost in translation, Japanese make Anime for their fans, and if it gets popular enough it will eventually get localized over here. Not every anime and videogame will get to be Redubbed for the Western audiences. Sometimes in the Original the characters through dialogue get portrayed as imperfect or diefied as absolute personalities, and in the US it gets dubbed differently for the fans over here and sometimes it gets mixed up and the character FEELS differently. Personally I wont get on the band waggon of bashing Voice Actors, cause it must really suck to go to a job where all you do is speak in a different voice all day, in order to earn some cash. [Unless your Johnny Bosch, and you've always sounded like Ichigo since you were a Power Ranger 15 years ago]. Most of the VAs have to do extra voice work in other genres besides anime, like video games, some of them are still aspiring actors, and some of them are aspiring musicians. Most of the Female Seiyuus in Japan have released Music CDs and work in more than 10 roles for Animes a year, and even some who couldnt get any further work had to resort to J-Porn [Im not saying who, im just saying: I know who]. If it HITS then i'll watch it and see if it hooks me to the series. If its a MISS, then i'll just skip it and watch something else. No use in dwelling how bad the English Dubs are, I got better things to worry about.
Thats all i have to say on the subject. Good luck with your class. SHOOT FOR AN 'A++' You can do it! Believe It!

1. I have peen.
2. 21
3. 2. usually disappointed, but I've had a few good experiences. I'm not enough of an elitist/otaku/weaboo to get caught up in the stupid concept that one is superior.
4. My opinions are influenced by quality and variation of voice. My biggest issue with dubs, is that most VA's often don't mix up their voices between roles, if at all. that's really about it.
5. I don't like dub companies. there're a few Voices I like, but overall, the companies are meaningless to me.
6. To be honest, I dislike ALL dubbing companies. Its usually moar miss than hit.
7. Crest/banner of the stars. Zoids: Chaotic century. mostly for my only preferred dub VA, Matthew Erikson. Also, Golden Boy was so badly dubbed, it ADDED comedic value to the series.
8. I count one piece as two horrible dubs, throw in magical doremi, Digimon Data Squad, and a few others
9. the usual. minor details, major details, cultural references, and overall, ridiculous names.
10. got none
